My Year in Adventures: Free 2026 Planning Workbook

Why Traditional Goal Setting Doesn't Work (And What Does)

Most New Year's planners want you to write things like:

  • Lose 20 pounds

  • Make $100,000

  • Get in shape

And by February? You've forgotten all about them.

Here's why: Those aren't goals. They're obligations.

And your brain knows the difference.

What Actually Works: Vision Boards + Adventure Goals

For the last 10+ years, my family has had a New Year's tradition.

We sit down together with snacks, magazines, scissors, and markers. And we make vision boards.

Not goal boards. Not to-do lists. Vision boards.

Things that make us FEEL something when we look at them.

The Speed Boat Story

ree

I had a speed boat on my vision board for YEARS.

Not because I wrote "Purchase boat" as a goal. But because every time I looked at that image, I felt something.

I saw myself on the water at sunrise. I saw my kids learning to wakeboard. I saw the freedom.

And this year? I finally bought the boat.

Not because I had it on a checklist. But because my subconscious mind had been working on it for years.

My Kids' Bucket Lists

ree

My kids don't call it a vision board. They call it their "year's bucket list."

And you know what they put on it? Fun stuff.

Not "get better grades" or "practice more."

Things like:

  • Go camping

  • Learn to skateboard

  • Build a treehouse

  • Try sushi

Because those things create FEELINGS. And when you're excited about something, you find a way to make it happen.

The Money Mindset Shift

Here's where most people get vision boards wrong.

They'll put "$100,000" on their board with a checkmark.

Maybe that works for some people. But I can't relate to a number on a page.

Here's what works better:

Instead of "$100,000," put the ADVENTURE that money will pay for.

A photo of Patagonia. A ski trip to Whistler. A family trip to Europe.

When I see that Patagonia photo on my vision board, my subconscious knows: "That trip costs about $10,000."

I don't need to write the number. My brain just knows: "I need to make that happen."

And suddenly, opportunities show up. Ideas come. Things align.

Not because of magic. But because your mind solves problems you're actually thinking about.

Put Things That Create Feelings

This is the key.

Your vision board should be filled with things that make you FEEL something.

Not obligations. Not "shoulds." But things that make you excited when you think about them.

For me, that's:

  • Mornings on the water

  • Snowboarding with my kids

  • Learning new things (like wingfoiling at 48)

  • Adventures I thought I was "too old" for

What is it for you?

Why I Created This Planner

ree

At 35, I was exhausted, overweight, and too tired to play with my kids.

I tried traditional goal-setting: food journals, workout tracking, income targets.

None of it worked.

Then someone challenged me to sign up for a 10K race. Not "get in shape." Just: Do this specific thing on this specific date.

An adventure goal. Not a metric goal.

That one race changed everything. One race became marathons. One yes became learning to wingfoiling at 48. One decision became a completely different life at 50+.

Adventure goals are different. They're specific. They're exciting. They pull you forward.

You can SEE yourself doing them. You can FEEL what it will be like.

What's in the Planner

ree

"My Year in Adventures: 2025 → 2026" asks different questions:

2025 Reflection:

  • What made you feel most ALIVE in 2025?

  • What adventure are you most proud of?

  • Who did you share the best moments with?

The Video Challenge:

Go through your camera roll. Find 10-20 moments that made you feel alive in 2025. String them together. Post it on Instagram with #MyYearInAdventures and tag @funerg.

This isn't about perfect moments. It's about REAL moments.

2026 Planning:

  • What are 3-5 BIG adventures you want to have? (With actual dates)

  • What weekly adventures will keep you alive?

  • Create your vision board (Things that create FEELINGS)

How to Use It

1. Download it (it's free): https://bit.ly/funerg-planner

2. Print it. Don't just fill it out on your computer. Print it. Write on it. Make it real.

3. Fill it out. Set aside 30-60 minutes. Think about what made you feel alive in 2025. What do you want to experience in 2026?

4. Create your vision board. Find images that create feelings. Cut them out. Glue them down.

5. Put it somewhere you'll see it. Not in a drawer. On your desk. On your wall. Somewhere visible.

6. Revisit it monthly. First day of each month, look at it. What progress have you made? What needs to be scheduled?

7. Actually book the adventures. Pick ONE adventure TODAY. Book it. Schedule it. Make it real.

The planner doesn't work sitting on your desk. It only works when YOU work.

The Real Goal

I don't want you to have a perfect 2026.

I want you to have a LIVED 2026.

Full of moments that make you feel alive. Adventures you remember. Days where you forget to worry about getting older and just... live.

Because at the end of 2026, you won't remember the goals you hit.

You'll remember the adventures you had.

P.S. - Make this a family thing. My kids have been doing vision boards with us for 10 years. They call it their "year's bucket list." Some of my favorite family memories are sitting around the table together, scissors and glue everywhere, talking about what we want to experience in the year ahead.
